Two great reasons to join ABYC:
1)
Standards
ABYC develops the voluntary concensus safety
standards for the design, construction, equipage, maintenance and repair
of small craft. Often, ABYC is the only source of standards for many
aspects of the marine industry. The development of uniform standards is
the basis for industry-wide comparisons of products and performance.
ABYC is also principal resource for the development
of international standards, by acting as the administrator for a Technical
Advisory Group which writes standards for the marine industry world-wide.
Both nationally and internationally, ABYC is on the
leading edge of the movement toward greater use of and reliance upon
standards that improve our products, increase our profits and improve
boating safety for our customers.
2)
Education
Education about boating standards and other technical
areas is one of ABYC’s primary missions. Using the knowledge of experts
who develop our standards, ABYC designed a premier education program.
The keystone is a comprehensive marine technician
training and certification program that is recognized nationally as an
important factor in improving the quality of installation and repair work
on small craft. It has the added value of increasing profits in repair in
repair facilities and providing a career path for marine technicians as
they become ABYC certified.
Additionally, the ABYC education program on technical
subjects such as one week courses on Diesel Engines Certification,
Gasoline Engines Certification, Electrical Certification and Refrigeration
& Air Conditioning. It also has two and three day seminars DC/AC
Electrical Systems, Corrosion and Accident Investigation that are offered
nationally. One day workshops on Troubleshooting Electrical Systems, Codes
and Standards, and Wordsmith Survey Reports add to the variety.
